"Blackout Night" at Rex on Saturday as ASC hosts #18 CSU-Pueblo

Food, fun, fireworks at Grizzly football home opener Saturday, Sept. 17

ALAMOSA, Colo. -  Friends and family of Adams State Athletics are invited to “Blackout Night” at Rex Stadium as the Grizzly football team plays at home for the first time in 2011 against the 18th-ranked CSU-Pueblo ThunderWolves at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17. Fans can enjoy pre- and post-game activities, including food vendors on the campus green beginning at 5 p.m., and fireworks after.

Tickets for Saturday’s game are $7 for adults, $5 for students and seniors, $3 for children, and free for Adams State Grizzly Club, Cub Club and AS&F members.

Fans are encouraged to wear black to the game in support of the Grizzlies, and  special “Blackout Night” shirts can be purchased from the ASC women’s basketball team for $10, and will be sold in the main lobby of Plachy Hall from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. thru Friday, and during volleyball games on Thursday and Friday while supplies last.

Prior to kick-off, Grizzly fans can check out the ASC volleyball team take on fifth-ranked Nebraska-Kearney in Plachy Hall at 4 p.m. At 5 p.m., the campus green in front of the main entrance to Rex Stadium will host local food vendors and family games up until game time.

At  7 p.m. the Grizzlies and ThunderWolves will kick-off in a match-up of 2-0 teams. For the Grizzlies, the 2-0 start is their first since the 1996 season, and has them listed under the “Others Receiving Votes” section in the latest American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division II Coaches’ Poll. The ThunderWolves are ranked 18th in the latest poll, jumping up three spots after recording a 41-0 win over Northwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday.

During the game, the new patio section at Vistas Restaurant in the stadium will host an Adams State football alumni reunion. At halftime, ASC Athletics corporate partner and game sponsor Alamosa State Bank will be recognized, and the Grizzlies cheer and dance squads will perform.

Following Saturday’s action, a fireworks display presented by ASC Housing and Auxiliary Services will be set off from the practice field located to the immediate North of Rex Stadium.
