The new Adams State College cheerleading coach is Valerie Hagedorn, who took over the program in March, 2010.
A native of Monte Vista, Hagedorn also works as the coordinator for the Pro-Fit Lifestyle Program at San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center in Alamosa and has been the cheerleading coach at Monte Vista High School for the last two years.
A cheerleader herself while attending Monte Vista High School in the late 1980s, Hagedorn served as the Pirates’ co-captain as a senior in 1988-89 and was a 3-year member of the Arby’s All-Star Cheer team.
She then took her talents to Cochise College in Douglas, Ariz. and was a member of the Apaches’ team from 1989-1991 while earning an associate’s degree in business in 1991. She also served as an assistant coach while cheering.
Hagedorn, who plans to complete her bachelor’s degree in communications at Regis University in the summer of 2011, also serves on the Historic Preservation Advisory Committee in Alamosa and as a board member for the Colorado Coalition of Cyberschool Families.
She and her husband Greg are the proud parents of 16-year-old son Steven Atencio.
