In July 2010, Scott Kretzmann joined the Adams State athletics department as the Assistant Sports Information Director, where he will be the media contact for several varsity sports while leading the Grizzlies “new media” and social networking efforts.
Kretzmann, a native of Naperville, Ill., is a 2008 graduate of Augustana College in Rock Island, Ill. He then spent the 2008-09 academic as a sports information intern at Central College in Pella, Iowa, followed by a year as a sports information assistant at the University of Detroit Mercy. At UDM, Kretzmann helped to establish the Titans’ video and new media presence while serving as the media contact for the women’s soccer team, men’s and women’s fencing teams, softball team, and men’s and women’s track and field squads.
While at Augustana, Kretzmann earned six varsity letters while playing football and baseball for the Vikings. He was a three-year starter on the offensive line for the Vikings on the gridiron, where as a senior he earned second-team all-league honors, and was a relief pitcher on the baseball diamond.
Kretzmann who received his B.A. in English and Speech Communications, balanced his studies with not only his athletic pursuits, but also his duties as a staff member for the Augustana student newspaper, the Observer. After beginning as a staff writer, Kretzmann served as the features editor as a junior, and took over as Editor-in-Chief as a senior. At the conclusion of his term as Editor-in-Chief, he was presented with the Observer Award, given to the student newspaper’s most dedicated staff member each school year. In addition to working with the Observer, he has also written for the Quad-City Times in Davenport, Iowa.
Since completing his football and baseball playing days, Kretzmann has become an avid runner, and enjoys spending his free time running, reading and enjoying the outdoors.
