Avid golfer Jay Meyer is now in his third season as the coach of the Adams State College women’s golf team.  A resident of Alamosa since 1999, Meyer also owns and operates the Jay Meyer Insurance Agency and serves on the Grizzly Club Board of Directors.

Meyer, who took over the helm of the team for the spring portion of the 2006-07 season, was born and raised in Missouri and graduated from Nevada High School in Nevada, Mo. in 1983.  He was a 2-sport letterman for the Tigers and was a member of three state tournament qualifying teams, including the 1983 Tiger team that finished second.

Meyer then moved on to Baker University in Baldwin, Kan. and was a 2-year letterman and 1984 all-conference selection for the Wildcats.  He then transferred to Austin College in Sherman, Texas, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1987 while earning two letters for the Kangaroos.

Following graduation, Meyer joined the business world and worked for Travelers Insurance Company in Hartford, Conn., Denver and Atlanta from 1987-1994 before moving over to State Farm Insurance Companies for five years from 1994-99.  He was assigned to the Santa Fe, N.M. area during that time.

On the links, Meyer has won the Wigwam Interclub Challenge Amateur Championship in 2006 and 2007.  He also qualified for the Colorado Golf Association Public Links Championships in 2005 and was a qualifier for the 2004 CGA Mid-Am qualifier.

As a coach, Meyer has overseen the rapid development of the Grizzly program that is regularly making school history.  The 2007-08 Grizzly team, the first that he coached throughout the entire year, smashed the school's stroke average record and won the program's first ever tournament.  He also recruited four talented freshmen for the 2008-09 squad and now has a squad of eight players, the largest in history of the program, that first competed at the varsity level in 2005-06.

Meyer has four children.  Sons Logan and Ethan are 12 and 8, respectively.  Daughters Devon and Megan are 11 and 10.
